Windows PowerShell MVP
Following in the tradition of Microsoft's famous Scriptomatic, I've put together a free HTA, now version 1.4, that generates a VBScript logon script. Now you can script without scripting!  At the very least you can quickly generate a skeleton VBScript logon script that you can further modify and extend. The HTA will read a user specified list of server and printer shares top populate some of the drop downs and Active Directory for group names.  Building a script is as simple as picking the network resource from a drop down and a group.  You can also display a message, password age or run additional commands.  The HTA generates the code, let's you preview it and then save it to a file. The latest version includes an option to load the script into Notepad or Primalscript (if installed) for further editing. Here are some screen shots of the tool.

Requirements: Windows XP Professional in an Active Directory domain.

This is the top half of the HTA

map printers and drives based on group membership, configure logon script options

Here's what you see when you scroll down further

display an error message, run additional commands, generate VBScript logon script

Here's the result of creating a script which you can then save to a file.

Preview final script

After saving to a file you can edit it in Primalscript if it is installed. Otherwise, the button will default to Notepad.

The HTA is free and you can download from the SAPIEN Free Scripting Tools page. After you install it, be sure to review the README.txt file, edit drives.txt and printers.txt then you're ready to roll your own logon script without writing a single line of VBScript.  Of course, the more VBScript you know the more you'll be able to do.  You must have an XP or later computer that belongs to an Active Directory domain.
