Windows PowerShell MVP

Overview
This HTA is designed to help monitor and manage critical services on Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 2003.  You cannot use it to monitor Microsoft Exchange 5.5 servers.  It may work with the latest version of Windows Small Business Server, but this has not been thoroughly tested.  There are separate versions for Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 so make sure you download the correct one.  The Exchange 2000 version will work with Exchange 2003 but the Exchange 2003 version will not work properly on Exchange 2000 servers.  View screenshots.

How It Works
Using ADSI, a list a drop down list is populated with all Exchange servers in your organization. When you check a server, it is first pinged to verify connectivity. If it is unreachable an error message is displayed, otherwise information about the server and its Exchange services are displayed using a combination of ADSI and WMI. You can also stop/start services and change their start mode by clicking the appropriate button.  The HTA defaults to refreshing the display every 30 seconds.  You can modify this rate in the application.  To check another server, simply pick it from the drop list and click the Check button.

A version that supports monitoring multiple Microsoft Exchange 2003 servers and offers more detailed information from a single console is also available.  Learn more about ExchangeMonPlus.

Requirements

  • Windows XP, Windows 2000/2003
  • Exchange 2000/2003
  • Administrative credentials
  • 800x600 screen resolution or greater

The console can be run from a server, but was designed to be run from an Exchange administrator's desktop.  It only consumes a small amount of system resources and network traffic is limited to the periodic updates.

Exchange Monitor Service Management: stop and start services

Download (top)
There are only slight differences between versions, but make sure you download and install the
correct file for your Exchange environment.  The Exchange 2000 version will work with both Exchange
2000 and 2003 servers, but the Exchange 2003 version will only work properly with Exchange 2003 servers.
The files are self-extracting zip files.  If you downloaded ExchangeMon2000 or ExchangeMon2003 prior
to December 18, 2004, the wrong license was included.  The correct freeware license for these products
can be viewed and downloaded here.
